Maintaining an Alkaline body is Important for so many reasons.
Just 2 here
#1:  Disease needs an Acidic environment to thrive
#2. Disease "hates" an alkaline environment

So, how do you get Alkaline?
How do you stay Alkaline?
And how do you know if your Alkaline?
Getting Alkaline
Of all the balances the human body strives to maintain -- the most crucial is the one between acid and
alkaline...
The body goes to great length trying to maintain this nature of it's blood..

Unfortunately -- it is far to common for body tissues to become acidic and this imbalance sets the stage for all types of
illness..

Over-acidification is the underlying cause for ALL disease and for general dis--ease as well..
It is only when the body is acidic that it is vulnerable..
In short: good health requires a body in proper acid/alkaline balance.
There is only one way to assure that balance -- Proper diet.

The relationship between acid and alkaline is known as pH... If they meet in specific ratio's they cancel each other out
creating a neutral pH..

In the blood it takes about 20 times as much alkaline to neutralize any given amount of acid.. So it is better
and easier to maintain than to try to regain that balance..
Just as our body temperature must be maintained at 98.6
degrees -- our blood is ideally maintained at 7.365 pH.. (very mildly acid)..

Testing our pH can be easily done with saliva or urine.  You can even ask your Doctor to do a blood pH test.

What's the big deal about pH imbalance?
IN the early stages the symptoms may not be very intense. They might be things like skin eruptions, headaches,
allergies, colds, flu and sinus problems.. If it should go further it gets more serious like weakened organs which you
might not even be aware is happening or the more usual thing is you have some health problems and see your Doctor
who begins treatment for that specific problem.. It is a rare Doctor indeed who might consider your pH being off and
even more rare should they know it due to diet. That would hardly pay the bills since they don't sell food.

Then systems start to go bad resulting in dysfunctional thyroid glands, adrenals, liver and so on.. You still might not
realize what is going on.. When pH levels go to far to the acid side, oxygen levels decrease and cellular metabolism will
stop. Cells die -- then you die.. Thus, a declining pH is a serious thing..

Your body tries to help...
When faced with a lot of incoming acid the blood will began to pull minerals out of the tissues of our bodies to
compensate.. Some of these are much needed minerals like Sodium, Potassium, Calcium and Magnesium...
Normally, if our body is healthy it will maintain a reserve of these alkaline minerals in case of emergency demand.
However, if there is not enough in the reserves then the body goes looking for them elsewhere.. The body tries to
prevent cellular breakdown.. The bones and muscles are a prime candidate.. Calcium will be taken from our bones and
magnesium will be taken from our muscles.. And they are needed where they are at. We can't afford to have them
sucked from where they are needed.. This leads to deficiencies.. We have read and heard enough to have a basic
understanding of the problems that occur with those deficiencies...

I talk a lot about Magnesium deficiencies and how nearly everyone should be taking Magnesium supplements... The
reason goes right back to what we eat or do not eat and the lack of Magnesium.. And your pH is messed up so your
body is taking what little there might be stored for what it's actually needed for..A huge number of Americans are
deficient in magnesium... Basically this means your pH is most likely out of whack.. It's all connected..

The body will also try to throw off excess acid. It might do this through the skin causing things like acne, eczema, boils,
headaches, muscle cramps, soreness, swelling, irritation, inflammation and general aches and pains..

When acid waste builds up in the body and enters the bloodstream, the circulatory system will try to get rid of them in
liquid form -- through the lungs and or kidneys.. We all know someone who ended up in the hospital with fluid on the
lungs.. Could it be??? Makes sense to me.. Or how about Kidney infection?? Hummm...

If there is to much waste to handle, the body will try to deposit it elsewhere such as in the organs, including the heart,
pancreas, liver and colon and even stored in fatty tissue such as the breasts, hips, thighs, belly and even the brain..
Having excess acid in any of these places is --- well -- just toxic and again causes for all kinds of illness..
This process of acid waste breakdown and disposal can also be called the "aging process".... This imbalance leads to
irritation and inflammation - thus, setting the stage for sickness..

That is just the beginning... It gets worse.. There is a lot more to say about keeping out pH in balance and I am hardly
going to try to put it all into this article.. In reading the above we can easily see how this leads to so many other topics
that have been discussed here on Health Tidbits.. We have read a lot about inflammation and even about Dr. Weil's
Inflammation Diet which is simply a diet to work at keeping the proper pH..

You can also be TO alkaline which causes problems as well.  But not to worry. It is a rare person who will find
themselves to alkaline. (if we test - we know)...

Everything is connected... Every health problem we have are all connected to each other.. One problem leads to
another, then another.. The little things we often look for quick fixes.. And they can be found everywhere... Take this for
that.. Do that for this.. But we are simply putting a band aid on a wound that needs stitches.. It might hold for awhile but
eventually things will get worse.. and worse...

Even the big things we want a quick fix for.. Just cut it out (surgery) or just give me more drugs.. While these things, once
again, might be a great fix it will still be temporary in the grand scheme of things until we get to the CAUSE of the
problem and do something about it..

If you want to start at the right place it all comes down to what it always comes down to.. Exactly what you stick in your
mouth...

It is easy to find out what your pH (alkaline/acid) body balance is...  Just get some pH test strips and
test yourself daily. Cost-- a couple of pennies a day...  Time--  a couple of seconds a day..   Best money and time ever
spent.
